The end of the summer brings our traditional Labour Day weekend event, the Lions Salmon and Chicken BBQ held on Sunday, September 1 at Dinner Bay.  Bingo, beer and the barbecue along with music from Lion Toby Snelgrove and his band Rufus Rockhead will keep everyone entertained.  Don’t forget your 222 tickets for the periodic draws with the big prize draw of $800 at the end of the afternoon.  For full information, see our Salmon and Chicken Barbecue add in this issue of the MayneLiner.  
 
Special guests, the Syrian graduates from the Victoria Immigrant and Refugee Centre Society (VIRCS) Citizenship program, will be attending the Lions Salmon and Chicken BBQ.  It is expected that 30 to 40 guests comprising the graduates of the Canadian Citizenship Prep Course, their families and people from VIRCS will be attending.  The Lions were a large part of a fundraising picnic on Mayne Island for the Syrian refugees held three years ago at Dinner Bay.
 
Barbecuing by the Lions continues in September at the September 15th Terry Fox Run for all those hardworking walkers, runners and strollers going up and down the Mayne Island hills.  Lions will also be helping to set up for this worthy cause.
 
Our members have been busy throughout the summer with our rentals setting up tents, chairs and tables for the Fall Fair and weddings and birthdays.  The Lions also barbecued and "bingoed" at the Fall Fair, and the Lions BBQ team was busy serving up burgers and hot dogs at the baseball games held every second Wednesday in July and August.
