2015 -- Lions - Single Seniors Night With Santa and Neil Howard officiating
Lions Single Seniors Night is one of the Club's favourite events. It takes place each year in early December and offers single seniors (over 65 years) a complimentary Christmas Turkey dinner with all the trimmings, dessert and wine. Usually about 35 seniors and a similar number of Lions and their spouses sign up, so the Ag Hall , which is decorated for the occasion, is packed and lively.
Not even severe weather disrupts this tradition. A few years ago, during a blizzard, seniors made their way to the Wild Fennel restaurant, in many cases thanks to rides provided by Lions. Over 60 happy revelers packed the restaurant to enjoy dinner and good fellowship. It's a tradition that seniors sit with Lions and their spouses, and are introduced by a Lion. After dinner, there is live entertainment and carol-singing. Of course, when "Here comes Santa" is sung, the Jolly Fellow himself appears, with his helper, to hand out gifts to all the seniors. Sometimes poinsettias adorn the table and guests get to take these home as well. All in all, it is a wonderful time for everyone. The guests enjoy and appreciate a great Christmas meal that they might not have cooked for themselves. Many take the time to write and thank us .
HOW TO GET INVOLVED:
Volunteers are needed on the day to help set up and decorate the tables, greet guests, and in some cases provide transportation for the guests. Volunteers can also help the Planning Committee in purchasing gifts, telephoning riders for pick-up, and other jobs.
