Every annual Charter Night, it is our privilege as a Lions Club to seek nominations for Mayne Islander of the Year, in recognition of an individual (or couple) who has provided outstanding services to our community.

The Lions collect previously owned eyeglasses by donation. About once a month the collections are gathered up from Mayne drop off points, then routed to clinics at various Canadian locations.  Donations are cleaned, refurbished, read by a lensometer, catalogued, then forwarded to International areas of need, where clinicians match glasses to patients. In honour of Fred Greenslade, the first president of the Mayne Island Lions Club, the Mayne Island Lions Club offers a post-secondary scholarship to Mayne Island students graduating from secondary school.  The scholarship amount is determined by the fund-raising efforts in a particular year and the distribution of funds to other worthy projects.
