The Mayne Island Lions Fred Greenslade Scholarship

In honour of Fred Greenslade, the first president of the Mayne Island Lions Club, the Mayne Island Lions Club offers a post-secondary scholarship to Mayne Island students graduating from secondary school.
WHO CAN APPLY
The Mayne Island Lions Club invites secondary school graduates living on Mayne Island who plan to pursue a post-secondary education to apply.
WHAT IS THE VALUE OF THE SCHOLARSHIP
The scholarship amount is determined by the fund-raising efforts in a particular year and the distribution of funds to other worthy projects. The 2026 scholarship was a single payment of $1500 presented to two worthy candidates.
HOW TO APPLY
Applicants are judged on academic performance, school and community involvement (doing service), and recommendations from school and/or community personnel.
The application should include:

A letter indicating the applicant's intentions, for post-secondary education and involvement in the school or community.

Transcripts for the previous 2 years (or have them forwarded from the school ).

Letters of reference from school personnel and, if relevant, community members.
WHAT IS THE DUE DATE
Completed applications must be submitted by mid May of each year. The submission date is announced near the beginning of each calendar year.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT
A committee from the Mayne Island Lions Club will select the recipient(s). Committee members who are direct friends or family members of an applicant will be excluded from final decision process.
