Mayne Islander of the Year
Every annual Charter Night, it is our privilege as a Lions Club to seek nominations for Mayne Islander of the Year, in recognition of an individual (or couple) who has provided outstanding services to our community.

Eyeglass Donation Program
The Lions collect previously owned eyeglasses by donation. About once a month the collections are gathered up from Mayne drop off points, then routed to clinics at various Canadian locations. Donations are cleaned, refurbished, read by a lensometer, catalogued, then forwarded to International areas of need, where clinicians match glasses to patients. See the poster

Days for Girls
The Mayne Island Lions Club is partnered with the Mayne Island Quilter's Guild in support of the international Days for Girls initiative.

Fred Greenslade Scholarship
In honour of Fred Greenslade, the first president of the Mayne Island Lions Club, the Mayne Island Lions Club offers a post-secondary scholarship to Mayne Island students graduating from secondary school. The scholarship amount is determined by the fund-raising efforts in a particular year and the distribution of funds to other worthy projects.

Mayne Island Lions Club supports additional local, national, and international programs. When requests are submitted for help we respond as best we can. For example, we have supported the Lions Foundation of Canada Guide Dogs for many years (as reported in the Feb 2025 Lions Den Article) and recently donated $5000 to that program (a donation that was matched by a generous donor as mentioned in the Dec 2025 Lions Den article). To learn more about this Canada Guide Dogs program, read their recent newsletter (click here).
