Mayne Island Lions Annual Events

Charter Night Gala Dinner and Dance

This annual event celebrates the Mayne Island Lions charter in 1971, when the first banquet was held. This year's event was an amazing evening of great food, music, and dancing. The announcement and presentation of the Mayne Islander of the Year, and the presentation of awards to two deserving Lions were highlights. Click here to learn more about Charter night 2025.

Single Seniors Night: December 10, 2025

The Lions Single Seniors Nights are held during the second week of December at the Ag Hall. It is a gathering of Mayne Island's single seniors (over 65 years) to celebrate the holiday season with neighbours and friends. A complimentary and scrumptious Christmas Turkey dinner with all the trimmings is served, including dessert and wine. The evening is filled with music, conversation, laughter and smiles. About 35 seniors usually attend, and a similar number of Lions and their spouses sign up. The Ag Hall will be nicely decorated for the occasion.

Santa Ship: December 7 2025

The Santa Ship will land at the Miners Bay dock at 10:00am this year, and will leave at 12:00pm. Santa is greeted at the dock by the Mayne Island Firefighters and their truck. The truck is then pulled by Mayne Island elves to the Ag Hall where Santa and Mrs Claus hand out gifts to children on the island.

Church Fair - Mid July

The Annual Church Fair is held at the church grounds, usually on the second Saturday of July. This event is run by the church and its members, with the Lions providing tents, tables, chairs and help with setup and take down. Importantly, the Lions will also be there cooking hot dogs and hamburgers!

Japanese Garden Light Up - Mid December

The Lions help to maintain the Japanese Gardens throughout the year, then every December before Christmas, Mayne Lions members also assist with the set up of this spectacular display of lights in the gardens. The renowned Christmas Light Up is a very popular event with islanders and visitors alike. Opening dates and times will be announced.

Mayne Island Dog Show

The Mayne Lions host an annual Dog Show. The first was on Canada Day 2024 in Miner's Bay Park; the second was in Dinner Bay Park just before the End of Summer BBQ on Aug 30, 2025. It's a wonderful opportunity to showcase your dog's talents!

Big or small, short or tall it is a fun event for all (and the dogs like it too!). Please watch the MayneLiner and Facebook for details closer to the date.

End of Summer Barbecue

The Lions Annual Fall Barbecue is held every year at the end of summer on the Labour Day weekend. The entire community is invited to Dinner Bay Community Park for this barbecue with music, bingo and the 222 draw! Funds are raised for the Lions and other volunteer groups. Get in touch with a Lion early to get you 222 tickets!

Steak Night

Steak Night is an annual tradition for Mayne Island Lions members and invited guests. It's an informal way for Lions to get together and socialize with a good meal and a lot of prizes! Lions gather at the Adachi Pavilion for this event, which was built for the community by the Lions at Dinner Bay Park.

Fall Fair

The largest fair on Mayne Island is the annual Fall Fair, late August, at the Agricultural Hall Fair Grounds. (Mayne Island Agricultural Society.) The Mayne Island Lions will have their famous bingo tent up, and of course, will be serving their renowned hamburgers and hot dogs!

Terry Fox Run

This event takes place on the 3rd Sunday of September, and the Lions provide tents, tables and chairs and help with setup and take down. Mayne Island Lions will also be there hosting a hamburger and hot dog BBQ including cold drinks.

Bingo: Late Summer, Fall and Winter

Fall Fair Bingo
As noted above, the Lions attend the annual Fall Fair with their Bingo tent and its a well established favourite at this major island event.

Easter Bingo

On Easter Saturday at the AG hall, the Mayne Island Lions host bingo. Game prizes are always amazing. Additional draws for numerous prizes also liven the event.

Christmas Bingo

The Mayne Island Lions Christmas Bingo follows the Santa Ship in the evening. It is fun for the whole family but come early, seating is limited. There are various draws and specialty prizes that usually include turkeys and hams.
