From the Lions Den April, 2019
Lion’s Den Article, April 2019 The Lions met on March 6 to have a brief business meeting in order to afford Lion John Glover enough time to give us a presentation about internet safety. Some members were joined by their partners for the evening along with two prospective members. John is a hands-on senior certified management consultant and one branch of his profession deals with internet security. We found his interesting and valuable talk unnerving and many questions followed regarding what can be done to protect ourselves from scammers. One of his references came from Lion Len Epp in the form of "The Little Black Book of Scams", a great publication from the federal government for retired civil servants. Many thanks to Len. Lion John is offering his presentation to the Mayne Island general public as a Lions service on April 17th at the Ag Hall. We encourage everyone to come out and to bring questions for John. You will hear more about "The Little Black Book". Our new slate of officers will be elected at our April 3 meeting. Thanks, Bob Soper, for heading up the nominations. Bookings for our rental equipment are now coming in and we encourage anyone needing tents, tables, chairs and dinner supplies to place their orders soon through our web page to avoid disappointment. For a complete list of what we offer, (*) go to our web page at the site given below Are you a good scooper? The Mayne Island Lions have never turned away an energetic deer poop scooper armed with a small rake and flat bladed shovel who is willing to help prep Dinner Bay Park for the Easter activities! This year Bill Warning is heading up the crew on April 20th to have everything spic and span for the 21st. No one has volunteered to keep the deer away during the night, unfortunately. The Lions Mayne Island phone books are ready to go and will soon be distributed. Please consider a donation using an enclosed envelope to help with the costs. A huge thanks goes out to Toby Snelgrove for heading up this annual project. Our neighbouring Lions on Saturna Island have their annual Charter Night celebrations on April 8th and a few of our members will head over to join them. It is always interesting and fun to see how another club operates and how we share in the spirit of serving our communities.
